Meaningful Use Hardship Exemption
New Resources Available on 2014 Certified EHR Technology Hardship Exception
Eligible professionals (EPs) that aren't able to implement 2014 Edition Meaningful Use (MU) certified EHRs in time to demonstrate MU for the 2014 reporting may qualify for a hardship exemption. This will protect them from the applicable Medicare payment penalties.
CMS releases additional guidance on the 2014 Medicare hardship exemption
Check out the tipsheet for EPs here and see the Educational Resources page for more general information. Edits have also been made to the Payment Adjustments & Hardship Exceptions Tipsheet for EPs to reflect these updates.

Adjustment & Exemption Timing
The Medicare EHR MU penalty is applied in 2016 for the 2014 reporting year for EPs who attested to MU in a previous year. New participants in the 2014 reporting year may also apply for an exemption to the 2015 penalty / adjustment. See Meaningful Use Deadline Clarification for more information.
CMS is now accepting exemption applications for the 2015 payment adjustments only. EPs need to apply by 7/1/14. Forms to apply for a hardship for the 2016 penalty will be available after the close of the current application period.
