EHR and practice management for mental / behavioral health

PIMSY is on the NC HIE list!

PIMSY mental health electronic practice management system is on the NC HIE list!!

by Leigh-Ann Renz, 11.28.17

What Does That Mean?

It’s true: PIMSY mental health EHR is on the North Carolina HIE approved list. HIE (Health Information Exchange) is a state-wide shared repository of health data that’s being used in many states nationwide. State governments use this information to collect + analyze trends and make data-informed public health decisions.

North Carolina is one of the states maintaining an electronic HIE; and PIMSY is one of only a few behavioral health EHRs that’s on the approved list. This means that our clients have successfully submitted health information directly from PIMSY into the NC HIE. We refer to this interface as the “PIMSY Pipeline”.

How Does It Work?

In PIMSY, the process is automatic: you go about your usual routine: treating clients; writing session notes; prescribing medications – and key areas of PIMSY will automatically funnel the relevant data to the NC HIE. You have to opt the client in, and if there is any type of substance usage diagnosis codes on the client, PIMSY automatically opts them out.

There’s no effort on the part of the provider: other than initially registering a client, the entire process is automatic. Once the HIE settings have been activated, PIMSY tracks whenever you make a change to the key areas of the system (client chart, note, diagnosis codes, medication tracking, Admin-Discharge-Transfer, etc).

This qualifying data is placed into a queue, and 30 minutes after the data has been resting (ie, no further changes have been made to that section of PIMSY), the information is sent directly to the NC HIE in the form of an HL7 file, where it’s ingested into the shared state repository.

If for some reason, the file can’t be generated – ie, the process isn’t working – PIMSY will send you an alert so any errors can be corrected.

Locally Grown

The PIMSY Pipeline is just one of several ways that PIMSY serves North Carolina mental + behavioral health care providers. While PIMSY is being used by customers in 40 states, it was grown locally in NC: it was literally created by and for NC clinicians. Due to feedback from our customers, we've added some sweet North Carolina-specific features to better serve our home state, such as top-notch authorization management; the NC PCP; NC HIE; and more.
