Good clinical documentation is an important part of psychotherapy practice. It is often the most disliked part of clinicians’ work. Many people feeling there is not enough guidance about what to write and how to write it. Paperwork can seem disconnected from being helpful to clients.

Some clincians feel that they are in an ethical dilemma of providing good care or meeting the demands of payers. On the flip side, some of us can be ruled by documentation requirements in a way that gets in the way of quality care.

Effective documentation requires good interviewing skills and organizes clinical thinking so that writing notes and treatment plans can be done quickly and efficiently, authorizations are easy and audits aren’t threatening. It can be a reflection of and contribution to high quality clinical work rather than a detour. Find out how in this training.
