PIMSY Gives Back: STAR Ranch
by Leigh-Ann Renz, 7.10.14
The PIMSY mental health EMR team is deeply invested in community involvement and charitable organizations, especially those that are connected to mental health.
Everyone in the PIMSY family is in some way involved in giving back, whether it’s something simple like anonymous monthly donations that our team members make to causes close to their hearts – or bigger involvement, like ongoing charitable contributions and support.
Donna Koger and STAR Ranch
This month, we’ll focus on the STAR Ranch, or Save the Animals Rescue. STAR was started in 2005 by Jim and Karen Owens, who opened their western North Carolina farm for horses and goats to have a safe place to heal until they can be adopted. There just isn’t enough room at the local animal shelter, and sometimes hoofed animals require a little extra care. STAR Ranch is a place where they can receive that extra nuturing until a forever home is found. Check out some of the great work they do via their adoption stories.
PIMSY compliance officer Donna Koger has been volunteering for the STAR Ranch for almost 2 years: she created – and now maintains – their new website; assisted with the recent horse parade in downtown Waynesville; and participated in their June 7th yardsale. “I think it’s important to give back, especially to organizations that support the most vulnerable members of our community: animals and children. I am honored to be a part of the STAR Ranch’s amazing work!”
Donna also represented PIMSY in the recent KARE fun run as part of our walking team.

With the ongoing support of the community, both local and nationwide, STAR Ranch will continue to provide hope for animals in need and the people they sustain.
