PQRS for Mental Health Myth # 1
by Leigh-Ann Renz, 5.9.14
“I’ve heard that the deadline for claims-based PQRS reporting is 7/1/14”
This myth is false: the deadline for claims-based reporting is 12/31/14. Starting in 2015, all reporting must be processed electronically, and you should plan to utilize one of the electronic reporting options (EHR, registry, and/or GPRO) by 1/1/15 if you’re not already.
While it’s a great idea to pick your electronic option, test, train, and make sure it will be a seamless transition for next year, you can safely continue to report via claims through the end of this year.
The 7/1/14 deadline is for practices who are participating in the EHR Meaningful Use Medicare incentive program for the first time: if you’re not using a certified system by 7/1/14 and attesting on 10/1/14, you will 1) lose the sizable incentive for this year and 2) be subject to a penalty on all of your reimbursements. (There is no penalty for the Medicaid program).
