How Does Hardware & Software Affect the Performance of Your Mental Health EHR!?
by Leigh-Ann Renz, 7.18.15
While we can’t speak for other behavioral health practice management systems, it’s pretty likely that, if you have weak Internet strength, your EHR efficiency will be negatively impacted.
Test Your Strength
A simple way to test the strength & speed of your current Internet service is http://www.speedtest.net/. When using PIMSY, the number of users/seats accessing PIMSY through the same Internet connection could cause system speed performance to vary. We recommend obtaining the fastest Internet speed available to you. A good start is 10 mbps download and 5 mbps upload.
Hardware required for PIMSY behavioral health EMR
The hardware that you use to run PIMSY will also have a factor in the performance. Having a Windows Vista or newer operating system is a good start (keeping in mind that Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 are no longer considered HIPAA-compliant).
Regarding RAM, you’ll want a minimum of 4 MG; 8 MG is optimal. If you are looking at new laptops, please make sure to get 8 GB and multiple processors. After about 30 people or so, you don’t need to keep going up by one meg for every person. PIMSY requires the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0. Click here for more details about hardware & software requirements to operate PIMSY most efficiently.
Factor It In
While we’re giving specifics for best using PIMSY EHR for mental health in this post, keep in mind that getting the operating specs for an EMR or practice management system you’re considering is essential. You don’t want to spend a lot of time in negotiation with a vendor whose product you might not even be able to utilize due to Internet provider constraints, hardware limitations, or similar restrictions.
