Veterans and Mesothelioma
Veterans of the U.S. military account for nearly a third of all mesothelioma diagnoses — and those veterans qualify for special financial benefits from the Veterans Administration (VA).
“Veterans are at higher risk today than the general population for developing an asbestos-related illness like mesothelioma cancer. This is a result of the military’s past reliance on asbestos, the primary cause of the disease, and the civilian jobs these veterans performed when they left the service.”
While we’re not affiliated with the groups below and have not personally used / vetted their services, they look to be excellent resources for those suffering from mesothelioma and offer veteran-specific tools:
The Mesothelioma Center
“The Mesothelioma Center is a patient advocacy center that provides information and resources to people affected by mesothelioma cancer and other asbestos-related diseases. The organization works to help veterans learn about asbestos exposure as a military member and provides assistance in VA claims and benefits regarding asbestos.
The Mesothelioma Center’s patient advocates are available to provide information about doctors who may be able to treat them best upon diagnosis, and can assist veterans in receiving e-consultations with top mesothelioma specialist to discuss mesothelioma risks.”

The Mesothelioma Group
Another great resource for veterans is The Mesothelioma Group, a support community that provides up-to-date, free, information and support, specifically focused on helping Veterans.
“If you’ve been diagnosed with mesothelioma, you’re entitled to benefits and compensation from the VA. This compensation can pay for your treatment and improve your quality of life. Our free Veterans Guide will help you navigate the VA claims process and get the benefits you deserve.”
